Indore is situated on the Malwa plateau at an altitude of 553 m above sea level, on the banks of two small rivulets - the Saraswati and the Khan. They unite at the centre of the city where a small 18th century temple of Sangamnath or Indreshwar exists. The name Indore is due to this deity. It is the largest city and commercial capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Indore city presents a happy blend of historical past and promises of rapid future modernization.

Kanch Mandir (Glass Temple), which is a jain mandir (temple), is a marvel in glass. This temple was built by the "Cotton King" Sir Hukamchand Seth in the early 20th century. The walls, ceiling, floor, pillars, doors are entirely inlaid with glass.

Holkar Palace (Rajwada) is close to the Chhatris, in the main square in the heart of the city. It is a seven storied building (only the facade remains) built over two centuries ago. This historic palace of the Holkars is built in a mixture of Maratha, Mughal and French style. The gopura-like monumental stone and wood structure, flanked by bastions and studded with balconies and windows, is a testimony of the past grandeur of the Holkars.

Nehru Park, This is the oldest and most centrally located park in Indore. Built by the Britons as Biscow Park, it was open to only the British in the pre independence days. It was renamed as Nehru Park after independence. It has a variety of roses, a library, a swimming pool, a children's hobby centre etc.

Access by Air: 
Indore is linked by air to Mumbai and Delhi via Bhopal and Gwalior.

Access by Rail: 
Indore can be reached from Delhi and Mumbai by rail.

Access by Road: 
Bus services are available to Indore and can be reached from Ujjain and Bhopal.
